Today I took a trip to the North West of Edinburgh where the small village of Queensferry is situated. Queensferry is where the 3 bridges cross over the Firth of Forth in to the Kingdom of Fife which will lead you North to places like St Andrews, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Dundee Etc.

The 3 bridges, 2 road and 1 rail bridge are called, The Forth Bridge ( 1890s railway bridge) The Forth Road Bridge (1960s) and the most recently constructed the Queensferry Crossing (2016).

Queensferry known locally as the Ferry and previously known as South Queensferry can be traced as far back as the 11th century. A ferry service was established by Queen Margaret around this time. Older significant buildings which you will see when walking the High Street, include the Black Castle 1626, the Tolbooth 17th century that also has an ornate clock that was added in the early 18th Century.

Queensferry is a growing town, but retains its village identity with a few significant local traditions that include, the Ferry Fair since the 12th century. The Burry Man procession dating back over 300 years and the recently created but famous Looney Dook. Feel to google to find out more about South Queensferry’s history and traditions.
